DUNEDIN COUNCIL OF SOCIAL SERVICES' Vision is for
"An Inclusive, Informed and Empowered Dunedin Community"
By being a visionary leader in building cohesive and robust Dunedin communities through co-operation, communication, and connectedness.
Our purpose is to promote Social equity, justice and wellbeing by advocating on issues, empowering groups and facilitating collaboration in the Social Services sector.
Our current activities include producing a bi-monthly newsletter "Newslink" for the volunteering services sector in Dunedin, administration of the voluntary sector supervision project, lobbying and submissions on central and local government Social Policies.
DCOSS works help strengthen the community and voluntary sector and provide a voice for those that are unable to. It is important to DCOSS to be a contact for the local community, central and local government.
Dunedin Council of Social Services (DCOSS) evolved from a committed group of men and women, who had great ambitions, for what could be achieved by serving the community without taking sides.
DCOSS was formed at a time when the government appeared to be stepping back from the delivery of Social Services leaving the community to pickup the pieces and to this end DCOSS was established in 1979.
For over 25 years DCOSS has been instrumental in assisting the not-for-profit sector in the following:
- Providing information and support
- Publications
- Dunedin Directory
- Funding Book
- Research
- Projects
- Facilitation
- Forums
