Burns Hall - 25 March 2009
On Wednesday 25 March DCOSS held its second Annual Community Forum Working Together Through Hard Times. Approximately 30 people were in attendance and heard about the Economic Situation from our two speakers, Chris Timms Investment Advisor for ABN Amro Craigs and John Allen, Regional Commissioner, Ministry of Social Development. The speakers provided good information about the Recession and gave us a good starting point for discussions.
We then broke into groups to discuss
What information would help your organisation to make good choices?
What information could you provide that would assist in building a picture of what is occurring in communities
How could you think about funding differently
Provision of services
Teaming up with other organisations
Community Business Social Entrepreneurism
Ideas on empowering community
Opportunities
Working together
The themes, outcomes and issues from that session are attached in a PDF document click here (opens a new window).
If you have anything further to add, any ideas or suggestions please feel free to contact me on 471 6177 or email sue@dcoss.org.nz.
We are particularly interested in hearing your stories of how the economic recession is affecting your clients and your organisations both the good news stories as well as the more concerning stories. We will be following up with another forum in June and encourage you to join us to continue to work together to ensure our communities are resilient and strong.
