Family Whanau Regional Meeting

This meeting is part of a series of meetings faciliated by Supporting Families Otago as part of their contract with the Deistrict Health Board. The Family/Wahnau Network meetings rotate to different locations around Otago to capture regional information from families to report to the District Health Board.

the three meetings to date have raised some extensive information that will be forwarded onto the District Health Board. There has been a great turnout of families and agencies that are working with or in mental health.

NZCOSS Biennial Conference

Dunedin is hosting the NZCOSS Biennial Conference 2010 – Coming of Age: Reaching Sustainability in November.

This is an ideal opportunity to attend this conference, meet with other social service and community organisations from around New Zealand and listen to some inspiring people, as well as show New Zealand Southern Hospitality

The keynote speaker is Terrence R. (Terry) McDonald, Executive Director of the St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVdP) of Lane County, Oregon. He is a hands-on visionary leader with degrees in Political Science and History as well as a Masters Degree of Education from the University of Oregon, Terry’s energies are focused on affordable housing and economic development projects which create jobs while improving the environment and the community.

Evolve Spiritual Art Award

Are you an artist who explores aspects of spirituality in your creative practice? The Evolve Trust is currently developing a spiritual art concept modelled on the Blake Prize for spiritual art in Australia. Provided that our funding applications are successful, the Evolve Spiritual Art Award will offer a first prize of #1000 for a work of outstanding technical skill and spiritual intregrity, as well as providing free exhibition opportunities for many other works of spiritual art.

The competition will be open to anyone with a well-made artwork which expresses spiritaul beliefs, explores spiritual issues and examines the notion of spirituality itself.

Maori Role Models - Inspirational korero from inspirational Maori

This book is aimed at Maori rangatahi (youth). It is a book that features successful Maori from a wide range of backgrounds and careers. These are people that rangatahi look up to, can relate with, and whose stories will inspire, motivate and help them to think about goals, their future and ultimately help them to pursue a chosen career pathway.

Red Cross Dunedin Community Transport Service
NZ Red Cross in Otago is pleased to be able to launch a Community Transport Service in Dunedin on 30th August 2010. A need for this service has been identified by NZ Red Cross in Dunedin and other local community organisations such as Age Concern and RSA Dunedin.

Community transport provides transport to people who cannot otherwise afford or arrange to attend medical appointments. The service is focused on provision to senior citizens in the first instance, but is open to all individuals who are referred to the service by a health provider.

NZ Red Cross has provided a van for the service, and trained volunteer drivers will deliver the service which will be co-ordinated out of the Dunedin office. The service is free; however donations will be gratefully received from those who utilise the service. The van will be fitted with a defibrillator and a first aid kit in case of emergencies, which the volunteers will be trained to use.
