Conference (Call for INVOLVE 2010 Connect Abstracts Open)

The Call for Abstracts for INVOLVE 2010 Connect is open.We are inviting expressions of interest in presenting from youth workers, researchers, academics, youth health professionals, policy makers and others.
INVOLVE 2010 Connect is aiming to be a positive space for the sector to come together, connect and learn. We will be looking for innovative and solutions-focused presentations.
One of the key goals of INVOLVE 2010 Connect is for participants to leave with new tools and skills to support their invaluable work in our communities. There are limited slots available and we will be selecting based on diversity of presentations, originality of the presentation, and relevance to conference delegates. Presentations must relate to the conference theme and be relevant to conference streams.
INVOLVE 2010 Connect : Together We Are Stronger
Day 1 Râtou : Young people are stronger if they are connected to each other, their family and whânau, and their community
Day 2 Mâtou : Young people are better supported if the sector is more connected
Day 3 Tâtou : Young people's needs are better met if the sector and young people are connected to the big picture (policy making)
Presentation options are
Papers (15 min presentation x 2 per session)
Snapshots (15 min presentation x 3 per session)
Workshops, either training or interactive (1 hour presentations)

Job Search Workshop for Migrants

This workshop is free for migrants to help them in their job search.
The workshop will be facilitated by Mike Dooley from Career Services and Fi McKay from Settlement Support Dunedin.
The workshop will cover job interviews and will provide the opportunity for participants to practise answering interview questions with local employers. People who register in advance will be sent information to help them prepare. We will also discuss the role of CVs and cover letters in applying for jobs.
Please contact us at Career Services to register and notify anyone else you know who might be interested in attending. This is so that we have an idea of how many will be attending.

Mental Health Needs Assessment & Service Co-ordination

A Forum for Mental Health Needs Assessment & Service Co-ordination Practitioners. The forum has run for many years in the south and is now attended by personnel from the North Island. With about 45 participants there is an opportunity for sharing information and skills and for ongoing education.
Who is invited? *Practitioners in the Southern MH NASC model (In the past we have had 30 out of a possible 35 from across the South Island) *Any NASC practitioners from elsewhere who have a Mental Health position. *NASC managers who have a Mental Health NASC role as part of their portfolio (Some North Island DHBs have taken NASC staff from their Mental Health Teams and placed them elsewhere.) *Anybody with an interest in Mental Health NASC.
Place: Latimer Hotel. Latimer Square Christchurch.
Cost: $80 for the sessions. Lunch proved both days.

This expo is aimed at older people who are no longer driving or who wish to plan ahead. A large range of information will be available regarding other transport options around Dunedin, help available, hearing and vision issues and much more!
There will be mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs available for those interested to have a go on!
Age Concern Otago wishes to thank the Otago Motor Club Trust for funding this event in both South Dunedin and Mosgiel (Mosgiel will be later in the year)

ACC Tai Chi Instructor Training

ACC is holding instructor training in modified Tai Chi.
Modified Sun-style Tai Chi is a style of Tai Chi developed for older people that focuses on preventing falls by improving lower limb strength and balance.
We are opening the training up to suitable organisations and individuals who could utilize the skills learned within their organisations.
Modified Tai Chi instructors
The modified Tai Chi instructor training is best suited to health care professionals (e.g.physiotherapist, occupational therapist, etc.), exercise instructors, Tai Chi instructors or advanced Tai Chi students.
Basic Course: Feb 22nd and 23rd
Advanced Course: 24th and 25th Feb
Cost: $15.00 to cover tea/coffee/venue hire

Celebrating Women Through Art
Rape Crisis Dunedin calls women artists to create the artwork for our 30 year commemorative poster.
'Celebrating 30 Years of Rape Crisis in Dunedin'
The successful design will be reproduced in a limited print run for distribution in Dunedin, and will be launched at our Rape Crisis Dunedin Benefit GIg on the 15th May 2010. The original artwork will be displayed in our 2011 Exhibition in the Dunedin Community Gallery from 2-7 May (Rape Awareness Week).
